United honours season’s best players
WESTERN United Football Club have awarded their top players and team members at their recent gala night to conclude the 2023 to 2024 A-League season.
Daniel Penha and Chloe Logarzo won six awards between them, with Penha taking home the men’s Player of the Season, the Golden Boot, Fans’ Goal of the Season and Club Person of the Season honours.
Logarzo won the women’s Player of the Season, and Fans’ Player of the Season.
“Elsewhere, Western United’s next generation was recognised with Alana Cerne and Matthew Grimaldi claiming the Young Player of the Season silverware for the women’s and men’s sides, respectively,” a statement from WUFC said.
“Cerne won the award for the second season in a row, while Grimaldi was recognised for his outstanding debut campaign in professional football.”
The A-League Men Fans’ Player of the Season award went to 2023 recruit Tom Heward-Belle, Hannah Keane won the Golden Boot for the second year in a row, and Grace Maher was named Club Person of the Season.
“Kahli Johnson’s sublime long-range blast against Melbourne City in round three was voted by the fans as the A-League Women Goal of the Season, while it was Penha’s strike against Macarthur FC in Unite Round that earned him that title for the men’s team,” a statement from WUFC said.
WU staff and volunteers who work behind the scenes and off the pitch were also celebrated for all they do to make United’s football action happen.
“Matchday operations and events manager, Steph Leondidis and commercial partnerships executive, Nathan Perrone won the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contribution, while Josephine Politis was recognised as the Volunteer of the Season,” a statement from WUFC said.
