THE Woady Yaloak Football Netball Club are trying their hand at cricket, becoming a Woolworths Blast Centre.

Starting on Thursday nights in term four, children aged four to 12 will be able to take part in the seven-week program which costs $80 per child.

The Blast Centre program is designed to help children of all skill levels to unlock their potential and learn new cricket skills while taking part in fun activities.

Woady Warriors vice-president Brodie Doolan said becoming a Blast Centre is a great way to increase engagement with the club.

“The Woady Warriors wanted to host a Woolworths Blast Centre at Smythesdale to help grow summer sports and junior cricket within the community,” he said.

“We are privileged to have such a strong supporter base with the football netball club and thought it would be a great opportunity to grow the club along with keeping these fantastic kids engaged within the club environment over the summer months.”

Eventually, the club leadership would like to have a junior team in the Ballarat Cricket Association.

Doolan said he hopes the cricket program is a fun experience for children and gets them outside during summer months.

“I hope the kids most importantly have fun while learning the skills required to develop their interest in playing cricket while making new friends,” he said.

“It’s extremely important for children to stay active and be outside, it is sometimes too easy to sit inside on an iPad but there is nothing better than having a run around and laugh outside with your mates.”
