Wehrung re-signs with two-year deal
GUARD Abbey Wehrung has re-signed with the Ballarat Miners on a two-year contract ahead of the NBL1 South season.
Last year Wehrung averaged 20.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game and helped lead the team to the finals.
She was named the Miners’ defensive player of the year and the NBL1 South defensive player of the year.
“I’m so excited to be back with the Miners for another two years,” she said.
“We have some unfinished business to get after and I just love where this program is headed.
“It’s a privilege for me to wear the Miners uniform and give back where I can to a club that has given me so much as a junior and also now as a senior.”
Wehrung is currently competing in the WNBL with the Bendigo Spirit along with Miners teammates Micah Simpson and Opal Bird, and under coach Kennedy Kereama.
She has averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game over 14 games and has a field goal percentage of 34.1, three-point shooting at 40.8 per cent, and free throw accuracy at 87.5 per cent.
“We are thrilled to announce Abbey Wehrung’s signing with the Ballarat Miners for the next two years,” said Kereama.
“Coming off a fantastic WNBL season, Abbey is undoubtedly our most credentialed player, having represented Australia and played over 200 WNBL games.
“Her addition brings invaluable leadership, experience, scoring power, and defensive prowess to our team.”
