Warriors expand sports offerings
THE Woady Yaloak Warriors Football Netball Club is inviting juniors to try footy, netball and cricket with them next month.
On Sunday, 21 February from 10am to 12pm, five to 12-year-old children are welcome to join Auskick and NetSetGO clinics, or try out for the club’s 2021 Ballarat Football Netball League Under Nine footy squad.
Woady Warriors president Adam Liversage said families from the Haddon, Ross Creek, Smythesdale and Scarsdale areas are encouraged to come out to the Smythesdale Recreation Reserve, to not only be active, but socialise with their neighbours.
“We’ll have a free barbecue, giveaways and raffles. We’re open to anyone coming along and getting the kids out to have a run around, because we want to get really strong community support behind the club,” he said.
“We’re hoping to run two under-9 teams in the BFNL Friday night competition. That’s our big aim for this year, as well growing our club and generating an interest for under 11s netball in 2022.
“Growing our Auskick program is also integral as a feeding ground to the under 9s squad.”
Mr Liversage said the committee is expanding sporting offerings under the Woady Warriors banner and will soon deliver Woolworths Cricket Blast.
The first session at Smythesdale Recreation Reserve on Tuesday, 16 February from 4pm to 5.15pm is free to try.
“That’s a cricket program for children aged five to 12, teaching the skills of the game through fun activities and modified matches.
“In the future, we want to look at having a Warriors junior cricket team, but to start, we’ve got these five Cricket Blast sessions running in February and March,” Mr Liversage said.
After their trial morning, the Auskick and NetSetGO programs will run at the Haddon Recreation Reserve.
