VICTORIAN-based Kane Constructions and Nicholson Construction have been named as the lead contractors for the Ballarat Major Events Precinct.

Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison made the announcement last week.

The companies have previously completed projects such as the Ballarat GovHub and the Bendigo Law Courts development.

“It further builds our reputation as a leading venue for sport and other events,” Ms Addison said.

The precinct will be upgraded to include 5000 more seats at Mars Stadium, increasing the capacity to 10,000.

An athletics track and a pavilion will be built on the former Ballarat Showgrounds site along with lighting, landscaping and a storage shed, and accessibility upgrades will be made throughout the precinct.

“The track and these great facilities form part of what will be an outstanding sporting precinct encouraging community participation, sporting clubs, and putting local talent on the path to becoming world champions and future Olympians,” Ms Addison said.

The upgrade is being funded by the State Government and includes works at Frank Bourke Oval in partnership with the City of Ballarat.

Construction at Mars Stadium is expected to begin in early 2025.
