THE Australian Boys Choral Institute is returning to Ballarat this March to celebrate the organisation’s eighty fifth anniversary season.

The performance entitled Sweet &Low will feature singers from the Vocal Consort, the Australian Boys Choir and guest artists Ballarat Voices and pianist Zachary Hamilton-Russe.

The name of the concert comes from the 2001 debut CD Sweet & Low by the Vocal Consort and the concert will feature classic repertoire as well as some new pieces.

“We wanted to kick the year of with a bang, so this is a really fun program,” said conductor Nicholas Dinopoulos.

“There’s something for everyone there.”

The show will be the first of their 85th anniversary season and Dinopoulos said this is a big achievement.

“The significance of turning 85 is an organisation is not lost on any of us,” he said.

“I think the reason its continued for so long is because it means so much to so many people and it empowers kids in such a special way.

“Our singers are really proud of what they can do and it’s extraordinary at the end of the day.”

Dinopoulos said it is important to the group to keep returning to Ballarat.

“We’ve got a really strong commitment to performing in the regions and we’ve been coming up to Ballarat solidly I’d say for the last five years,” he said.

“It’s great to keep connecting and growing our Ballarat audience and bringing great music to the region.”

The concert will take place on Saturday 16 March from 3pm at Christ Church Cathedral Ballarat and more information and tickets can be found on the Australian Boys Choir website.
