Success more than skin deep

HOW did Sarah Oram build success from the ground up as the founder of Unique Laser Clinics, now rebranded as Australian Skin Clinics?

She spent the first 10 years of her career advising big business on how to grow as a senior strategy manager at global giant PriceWaterhouseCoopers before deciding on a change.

Sarah could see her future mapped out before her as part of this big company – this would be a lucrative future, but one in which life would be 12-hour days, time away from home, and a high-stress environment.

None of which were appealing based on the way Sarah wanted to live her life.

So, Sarah decided to take a break from work, giving herself the time and head space to think about what was next.

It was a big move to make, especially given she had no specific idea in mind just an inkling that there was something better out there.

Sarah identified a gap in the Australian market for top-level, accessible aesthetic services. She founded Unique Laser Clinics, which in 2022 was rebranded to Australian Skin Clinics.

Originally opening her first clinic 10 years ago, Sarah is now the franchise owner of the Australian Skin Clinics located in Ballarat, Westfield Geelong, and Torquay.

“My real motivation for the change was wanting to empower other people, women in particular, to take their lives and their futures in their own hands,” she said.

“One hundred per cent of our staff are women and I am committed to creating exciting career pathways for women from all backgrounds and life situations.

“We offer traineeships, education pathways, ownership options and flexible working so we can attract and motivate the best people and therefore can deliver truly excellent outcomes for our clients.

“I just love helping women thrive in this exciting industry. One of our current team members in Ballarat started with us on a weekly school-based work experience.

“After recognising her talent, we are now supporting her via a full-time traineeship program.”

Sarah has a thriving home garden, and her change has allowed her to embrace her childhood passion for horse riding.

“What I love about owning my own business is I can set my own schedule,” she said.

“It’s a huge amount of work and it can be hard to take a day off, but I don’t have to work nine to five. I might get up and go for a horse ride, come home and work for a few hours, then take my dog for a walk in the evening.”
