The taste so great Kate bought the business!

IT would be fair to assume Ballarat local Kate Howell is actually Wonder Woman in disguise.

Each day she straps on her wonder belt as she raises four children under 14, works as a hospital theatre nurse, and runs her own business OMG Decadent Donuts Ballarat.

“Fortunately, I don’t do it alone, my husband Clayton is fantastic, and the kids are all great as well,” she said.

“My job as a theatre nurse, whilst full on, has quite regular hours which makes planning life a little easier.”

Kate and Clayton operate their new business as a side-hustle to their other jobs and it helps them manage their finances better, help them afford important things in life for their family, and cover the rising bills everyone is experiencing.

Twelve years ago Kate was diagnosed with coeliac disease, meaning if she eats gluten she becomes very unwell. Add to that, her kids are all super fussy eaters!

She’d been on the hunt for years to find a treat that her whole family could enjoy and that’s when she came upon OMG Decadent Donuts, but the nearest place to get them to us was in Melbourne.

So Kate and her family we’re travelling two hours just to try a donut.

“I was sold after one bite of the first donut,” she said. “The whole family was! Everyone loved them and they’re just fussy, not gluten free.

“I was so thrilled to find out I could open my own OMG business here in the Ballarat region.

“What I love the most is that they’re an inclusive treat, just about everyone can enjoy them.”

OMG Decadent Donuts are free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts and sulphites and have nothing artificial in them, and they are all natural and vegan.

Yet they taste absolutely amazing – soft, light and fluffy.

“Many gluten free foods taste like cardboard but these have a taste you can’t believe,” Kate said. “We make them hot and fresh for people. Right in front of them.

Many people buy them for kid’s parties and workplace events, so that everyone can enjoy the same treat regardless of dietary requirements. But others just buy them because they’re the best donuts they’ve ever tasted.

“We like to call them the goodies with no baddies.”

OMG Decadent Donuts are currently available from Kate and Clayton’s pop up store found at festivals, farmers’ markets, community events, fetes, sports carnivals and the like in the Ballarat, Buninyong, Creswick, Miners Rest and Smythes Creek areas.
