{"id":100014,"date":"2024-02-19T04:57:49","date_gmt":"2024-02-18T17:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=100014"},"modified":"2024-02-15T18:15:29","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T07:15:29","slug":"landscaper-returns-to-garden-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/landscaper-returns-to-garden-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Landscaper returns to garden show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT-based landscaper designer Daniel Althaus is set to have his work on display at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show this March.<\/p>\n<p>With his new garden <em>Mother Ocean<\/em>, he\u2019s aiming to challenge the boundaries of design and encourage a more natural aesthetic.<\/p>\n<p>The design is centred around a wave which he said symbolises change, motion and the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>Linear shaped Pietra Grigio paving sits in one corner of the design seeking to represent human intervention in nature, while a red steel path aims to draw viewers to the wave and the garden is full of lush rainforest plants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe heart of the garden is this two-metre wave which is steel and mesh,\u201d said Althaus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s got moss and ground covers all the way through it so it\u2019s all Australian natives and the design intent for the garden was to steer away from something that was traditionally landscaping.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100016\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100016\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-100016\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/02\/1837CC_ALD_REV6_19-Photo-600x380.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100016\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Althaus\u2019 garden Mother Ocean is centred around a wave. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As much as possible, Althaus likes to use local products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried to go to regional businesses, and I try and focus on them to bring them up with me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Althaus has been working as a landscape designer for the last five years and won silver and the people\u2019s choice award last year in the achievable gardens category of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty special to get the people\u2019s choice award and that garden was the start of everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really well received and kind of catapulted things for the business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is on from Wednesday 20 March until Sunday 24 March at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT-based landscaper designer Daniel Althaus is set to have his work on display at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show this March.
