THE Alfredton community gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the new kindergarten and community hub on Donegal Drive.<\/p>\n
The facility can accommodate up to 100 kindergarteners and contains flexible spaces for community use.<\/p>\n
The official name of the building is yet to be finalised.<\/p>\n
State minister for children Lizzie Blandthorn was in attendance to mark the occasion along with Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, and City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson.<\/p>\n
Ms Addison said it is important to have this facility in Ballarat\u2019s growing west.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that the Alfredton community is growing, there\u2019s lot of young families, many of them building their first house,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we are so proud to have this new kinder that\u2019s going to have 100 places for our littlest learners.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a great place to raise your children and be a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n
Places at the facility are filling fast and families who wish to enrol their children are urged to do so quickly.<\/p>\n
The project was funded with $2.25 million from the State Government and $9.9 million from the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Cr Hudson said the multi-functional spaces will be great for the wider community.<\/p>\n
\u201cGone are the days where we are building single use facilities, we must be smarter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community spaces having multiple programmable meeting rooms that are affordable for community groups.<\/p>\n
