MEMBER for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, joined the Mount Rowan Secondary College community last week to mark the beginning of construction for the next stage of upgrades at the school.<\/p>\n
The next phase of development will include food, technology, science, and art classrooms as well as a multipurpose room with the aim of supporting diverse educational needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that every school in Victoria deserves world class facilities,\u201d said Ms Addison.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that when you learn in a place that has great technology and you can be connected and there is room to learn, you have a better chance of success.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that creating work and learning spaces which encourage success, will deliver success across Wendouree and our northern suburbs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since 2015, more than $21 million of State Government funding has gone towards upgrades at Mount Rowan SC including new performing arts spaces, classrooms, a VCE centre, administrative areas, sports courts, and a cafe.<\/p>\n
School principal Seona Murnane said the community is looking forward to having more permanent spaces which provide stability to students.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been here now for nearly 12 years and since that time we\u2019ve done a lot of expansion of staff, students as well as our physical space,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this new build everyone\u2019s really excited about it because we have a few portables, but we actually want the physical space expanded because then it\u2019s better classrooms for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n
College captain Alex said it is great to see school pride grow alongside the development of the new facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I first came here, this school had a very different reputation, and I feel once we\u2019ve had these new buildings it\u2019s a really, really different environment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels collaborative and everyone is trying their best to succeed in these environments.\u201d<\/p>\n
Local construction company AW Nicholson will carry out the works and the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
