THE Australian Museums and Galleries Association\u2019s annual conference is set to be held in Ballarat for the first time this September.<\/p>\n
The event is expected to bring in 700 people including gallery and museum representatives as well as provide a more than $1.15 million boost to the local economy. <\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson said the opportunity is a major drawcard for the region\u2019s artistic and cultural reputation. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo be able to secure a major business event like this shows we are a true events destination and further cements Ballarat\u2019s reputation as a hive of cultural activity,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis conference will shine a light on our city\u2019s many brilliant museums and art galleries, including the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Eureka Centre and of course Sovereign Hill, as well as our creative community, unique heritage and dynamic street life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Australian Museums and Galleries Association has received $20,000 through the municipality\u2019s Tourism Events grant program to assist with the conference.<\/p>\n
Venues expected to host the conference include the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Civic Hall, the Ballarat Mining Exchange, the Goods Shed, and the Ballaarat Mechanics\u2019 Institute. <\/p>\n
