{"id":100979,"date":"2024-03-31T15:00:53","date_gmt":"2024-03-31T04:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=100979"},"modified":"2024-04-02T15:02:58","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T04:02:58","slug":"how-can-the-gardens-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/how-can-the-gardens-grow\/","title":{"rendered":"How can the gardens grow?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE direction in which the Ballarat Botanical Gardens grow and change into the future could be influenced by community ideas.<\/p>\n<p>A new master plan for the historic 40-hectare green space, including the adjacent north and south gardens, is being developed by the City of Ballarat in partnership with landscape architect Andrea Proctor.<\/p>\n<p>Municipal officers are seeking feedback from residents and visitors on what they do and don&#8217;t like about the precinct, and what could be improved.<\/p>\n<p>A new master plan hasn&#8217;t been penned since 1995, and any long-term visions people have for the area are also welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone has their own special memories of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and now is<\/p>\n<p>the chance to put your ideas forward to inform the preparation of the master plan,&#8221; said City of Ballarat spokesperson, Cr Amy Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The master plan will be the long-term plan for the gardens which will maintain and protect the gardens&#8217; important and well-loved features while allowing it to meet visitors&#8217; contemporary needs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 596px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/IMG_5174_84384.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"596\" height=\"398\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Balancing past and present: The Ballarat Botanical Gardens precinct is set to get its first updated master plan since 1995. Photos: FILE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;The more feedback from our community and visitors, the better informed our plan will be.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also set to contribute to the master plan are community groups including Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, the Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, and the Ballarat Botanical Gardens Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Based just west of Lake Wendouree, the gardens date back to the 1850s. Key drawcards are heritage-listed trees, the Robert Clark Conservatory or &#8216;glasshouse,&#8217; the Prime Ministers&#8217; Avenue, statues, the gothic fernery, and the annual Ballarat Begonia Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Proctor has been a part of landscaping projects at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, and the Albury and Colac botanic gardens.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the City&#8217;s MySay website to fill out the survey by Sunday 21 April, 5pm, or drop into a consultation session on Sunday 7 April, 10am to 2pm at the conservatory.<\/p>\n<p>Printed copies are available there, at Ballarat Libraries, or the Phoenix customer service centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE direction in which the Ballarat Botanical Gardens grow and change into the future could be influenced by community ideas.
