ANOTHER successful Bookfest event has raised more than one thousand dollars for Inter Club Drop-In Centre.<\/p>\n
Little Bookshop owner Wayne Compton was onsite over the two days selling his books, with a percentage of all purchases donated to the club.<\/p>\n
“The Bookfest was extremely successful, and Wayne took more money on the Saturday than what he took last year over the whole weekend,” Interclub<\/p>\n
co-ordinator Margie Iafrate said.<\/p>\n
“I’ve never seen so many books walk out the door as I did on Saturday, people brought shopping bags.<\/p>\n
“Wayne has beautiful books, and he sets everything up beautifully.”<\/p>\n
The weekend was also an opportunity for local authors to showcase their works.<\/p>\n
“We are unique in the fact we’re supporting local authors,” Ms Iafrate said.<\/p>\n
“We supported Jan Davidson who writes fantasy novels and I think she sold about<\/p>\n
60 books.”<\/p>\n
Those who participate in the centre’s programs will now decide what the money goes towards, with options such as an Indigenous art program and wood and leatherworking activities.<\/p>\n
Ms Iafrate thanked the community for their support.<\/p>\n
“For the clients it’s a wonderful thing because they helped Wayne set up and bought some books too,” she said.<\/p>\n
“When they first met him, they were quite reserved, but now he’s part of the furniture.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
