CHILDREN who can ride a bike and are interested to try a new sport this autumn are invited to take part in Club MUD’s kids’ program.<\/p>\n
The Black Hill-based mountain biking club is leading Mini Muddies this April with an aim to attract new riders, and to boost participation and skills development.<\/p>\n
“For this program, we get children as young as toddlers on balance bikes, up to the age of 12,” said Club MUD vice-president Caroline Blackley.<\/p>\n
“It’s designed to give them a go. It’s to give them something to do that’s a little bit challenging but also really fun.<\/p>\n
“We are keen to welcome new people into the sport and give them a taste of what it’s like if they do want to go into downhill racing or even enduro racing later on.”<\/p>\n
Mini Muddies is set for Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April at Black Hill lookout.<\/p>\n
The track raced will be the purpose-built Mini Muddies trail, which was created with riders of all skill levels in mind.<\/p>\n
“The track does have some challenging components, but it’s not designed to be confronting,” Ms Blackley said.<\/p>\n
“A lot of parents who bring their kids will ride down the track with them. There’s a family-friendly vibe there, and it’s a really inclusive club.<\/p>\n
“It is an individual sport, but that team spirit is still there…amongst people from all walks of life.<\/p>\n
“It’s all about encouraging the kids.”<\/p>\n
Club MUD junior development riders in the slightly older teen age groups will be support riders on the day, available to help and offer tips.<\/p>\n
“We’ve had such success with our junior development team assisting,” Ms Blackley said. “They’re really excited to help out with the little ones.”<\/p>\n
The Saturday is a practice day for riders to familiarise themselves with the track, while the Sunday is a competition day, with a mandatory morning practice session.<\/p>\n
