{"id":101486,"date":"2024-04-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=101486"},"modified":"2024-04-17T20:29:22","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T10:29:22","slug":"businesses-supported-to-use-renewable-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/businesses-supported-to-use-renewable-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"Businesses supported to use renewable energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE support is available for Ballarat businesses hoping to reduce their emissions and costs with two programs on offer.<\/p>\n<p>The Business Renewable Buyers Group and Ballarat Energy Network programs are helping owners move to 100 per cent renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 Local Government Areas have come together to form the Business Renewables Buyers Group which is designed to help organisations find better renewable deals.<\/p>\n<p>The group is backed by a facilitator who has experience purchasing renewable energy and it is hoped the initiative will reduce barriers to making the switch.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses that consume more than 5000MWh of electricity each year qualify to use the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee of Ballarat recently launched the Ballarat Energy Network which complements this initiative.<\/p>\n<p>This project uses 100 per cent locally generated renewable energy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/04\/shutterstock_3062310_71682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"398\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The City of Ballarat has a target of achieving net zero emissions by 2030. Photo: FILE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To achieve energy resilience for regional communities like ours, the grid must evolve to maximise the capability of distributed generation assets like roof top solar and storage systems,&#8221; said Committee for Ballarat CEO, Michael Poulton.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These will play an increasingly significant role as business, industry and the community in our region transition to an economy driven by 100 per cent renewable energy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cr Des Hudson encouraged local businesses to get involved with both programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ballarat and regional businesses now have more ways to embrace renewable energy with two great initiatives providing more choice and opportunity,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the City of Ballarat council adopted the Ballarat Net Zero Emissions plan which aimed for the community to reach net zero emissions by 2030.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE support is available for Ballarat businesses hoping to reduce their emissions and costs with two programs on offer.
