GET your running or walking shoes on to benefit breast and ovarian cancer research as the Mother’s Day Classic is returning on Sunday 12 May.<\/p>\n
The major Women in Super fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is a Mother’s Day tradition and will be held at Victoria Park. There are five and 10-kilometre course options.<\/p>\n
Breast cancer is the most common cancer identified in Australian women, and nine people die from the disease <\/p>\n
daily, while four women or girls are diagnosed with ovarian cancer on average in Australia per day.<\/p>\n
The aim of the Mother’s Day Classic is not only to back scientists’ cancer research work, but to bring communities together to honour those touched by breast cancer, those that have lost loved ones, and those having treatment.<\/p>\n
“By participating in the Mother’s Day Classic, you’re helping fund essential research that will improve the lives of anyone touched by breast or ovarian cancer,” a statement from Women in Super said.<\/p>\n
Ballarat’s 10-kilometre and five-kilometre runs will start at 9am, with the five-kilometre walk setting off at 9.30am. The start line is near the Victoria Park inclusive play space, opposite Loreto College.<\/p>\n
Registrations and check-ins will take place between 8am and 8.30am before an official Mother’s Day Classic welcome at 8.40am, an ambassador speech at 8.43am and a warm-up from 8.50am.<\/p>\n
Since 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic Foundation has donated $44 million to fund cancer research with an aim to eventually achieve zero deaths caused by the disease of breast cancer.<\/p>\n
