CITY of Ballarat officers are asking the community to provide feedback on draft plans to improve links along Macarthur Street between Creswick Road and Wendouree Parade.<\/p>\n
The aim of the project is to make it easier for people to walk, scoot, push a pram or cycle in the area.<\/p>\n
The stretch of road is currently the last missing link in between routes three and four of the Ballarat Bicycle Network.<\/p>\n
It is also one of the final sections to be completed of a link between Wendouree and Ballarat stations.<\/p>\n
The current draft plans aim to address issues highlighted by the community and residents can provide further feedback on the City’s MySay page.<\/p>\n
The proposed plan includes mid-section crossing points along Macarthur Street, an on-road protected bike path between Wendouree Parade and Creswick Road, and a shared path along the cemetery.<\/p>\n
“It is important that Ballarat has safe, predominantly off road or quieter routes which are suitable for pedestrians and families and encourages people to commute actively,” said mayor Cr Des Hudson.<\/p>\n
“While a number of people already choose to ride a bike, either to commute to work, for sport or for pleasure, there is room for improvement, and this Macarthur Street link is one of them.”<\/p>\n
The Federal government will help fund the project from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n
“This project will deliver more accessible and fit-for-purpose path along Macarthur Street and will make the area much safer for pedestrians and cyclists,” said Member for Ballarat, Catherine King.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
