{"id":102240,"date":"2024-05-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=102240"},"modified":"2024-05-08T17:17:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T07:17:56","slug":"school-building-opens-with-a-bang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/school-building-opens-with-a-bang\/","title":{"rendered":"School building opens with a bang!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ST Alipius Parish School&#8217;s students and teachers have celebrated the opening of an extension to their multipurpose space.<\/p>\n<p>Upgrades include the addition of an acoustically designed area for music and Japanese language classes, large glass doors and windows in the hall, and undercover areas for shelter and all-weather learning.<\/p>\n<p>As part of an event last week, some senior music students gave a performance on Japanese drums to officially open the facility with a bang.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s vital we are able to offer a contemporary learning environment for our students and teachers, and we are thrilled with the new and refurbished facilities,&#8221; said St Alipius principal, Emily Clarke.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/05\/20240503_102942_40147.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"801\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the beat: Music students played some Japanese drums as part of the opening of the St Alipius Primary School multipurpose space. Photo: EDWINA WILLIAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In particular, to now have an acoustically designed, specialist learning area for our music and Japanese language programs is invaluable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This facility is also being utilised by the wider community and for private music tuition. &#8220;The greater connectivity between our buildings and the new outdoor learning spaces also provide additional options for learning activities to help keep the students fully engaged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Member for Ballarat, Catherine King unveiled the building&#8217;s plaque alongside students, and Father Justin Driscoll, who also blessed the space.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/05\/20240503_103748_40157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Member for Ballarat Catherine King, St Alipius Primary School students Dolly and Finn, and Father Justin Driscoll unveiled the plaque to open the new multipurpose space. Photo: EDWINA WILLIAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;St Alipius Parish School has come a long way since it began in a tent on the Ballarat goldfields over 170 years ago,&#8221; Ms King said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The teachers, staff and students at today&#8217;s St Alipius Parish School have built an inclusive and positive school community and these new purpose-built facilities will be utilised and enjoyed by students and staff well into the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students everywhere have the opportunity to thrive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project was funded with $656,934 from the school community and $1.05 million from the Federal Government Capital Grants Program.<\/p>\n<p>A refurbished administration building has also been completed as part of the works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST Alipius Parish School&#8217;s students and teachers have celebrated the opening of an extension to their multipurpose space.
