AN upcoming free workshop is set to be held through the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House with the aim of teaching community groups the ins and outs of marketing and promotion.<\/p>\n
The fifth session to be delivered this year as part of the non-profit’s Community Governance Program, the event is one of BENH’s seven scheduled workshops for term two.<\/p>\n
Food is Free founder and director Lou Ridsdale will lead the session, and BENH’s community governance officer Kay Miller said the session will give attendees expert advice on how to promote their groups.<\/p>\n
“It’s for community groups to best understand how to promote themselves and to encourage people to get engaged with them,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Lou’s had a lot of experience in comms and marketing and she’s applied that to community groups and so we’re wanting her to share her expertise.<\/p>\n
“Some of the smaller groups that don’t currently have the capacity on their board to have this expertise can learn a lot from this workshop.”<\/p>\n
Subsequent workshops for term two will focus on managing and maintaining volunteers, and having difficult conversations within community groups.<\/p>\n
The program has been funded through the City of Ballarat and is being delivered across the area’s four Neighbourhood Houses. “The whole program is designed to help community groups get their governance, so their management, in order,” Ms Miller said.<\/p>\n
“Marketing is something all groups need to do to a certain extent to make sure people know about their activities but also to make sure they have enough volunteers for committee positions and organising.”<\/p>\n
The workshop will run from 10am to 11.30am at Barkly Square on Thursday 23 May while a repeat session via Zoom will take place from 6.30pm to 8pm the following Tuesday.<\/p>\n
