{"id":103301,"date":"2024-06-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=103301"},"modified":"2024-06-05T17:09:39","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T07:09:39","slug":"amplifying-guitar-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/amplifying-guitar-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Amplifying guitar history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN Australian exclusive exhibition coming to the Art Gallery of Ballarat (AGB) later this year will be music to the ears of guitar lovers.<\/p>\n<p>Medieval to Metal: The Art &amp; Evolution of the Guitar is set to celebrate the instrument, displaying guitar-centric paintings, drawings, designs, photographs and objects.<\/p>\n<p>But 40 loaned guitars from the National Guitar Museum in the United States are set to be the stars of the show.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the only venue this exhibition will be visiting in Australia, and we are proud to call Ballarat the home for these incredible works for almost five months over spring and summer,&#8221; National Guitar Museum executive director HP Newquist said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The guitar has long been the world&#8217;s most popular instrument \u2013 it outsells all other instruments combined \u2013 and visitors to Medieval to Metal will get to experience the entire history of the guitar all in one place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With 40 different instruments that show how the guitar has evolved in various forms around the planet, this exhibition explores the guitar&#8217;s role at the centre of both pop culture and art, and why it became the definitive musical icon of the past hundred years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/06\/PaulMcCartneybyTonyM_21331.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"849\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rock royalty: Australian music documenter Tony Mott captured Paul McCartney performing in 1993. Photo: TONY MOTT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>AGB director Louise Tegart said the exhibition will include pieces from the classical era to contemporary times, presenting a visual history lesson on the guitar and its evolution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Medieval to Metal celebrates the guitar in every way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through our nostalgic obsessions with bands, musicians and performing artists to our love of creating and sharing music through interesting sounds and rockin&#8217; riffs, we are proud to present this exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The guitar has been making headlines for centuries.
