A BRAND-new car has been donated to Grampians Health’s Cancer Centre patient transport fleet.<\/p>\n
Peter Stevens and his family presented a Hyundai Tucson to the centre and volunteer drivers last week at the Peter Stevens Motorworld dealership.<\/p>\n
The car will be driven by the patient transport volunteers who pick up and drop off cancer patients for treatment appointments including chemotherapy and radiotherapy.<\/p>\n
“We are incredibly grateful to the Stevens family for another generous donation and their ongoing commitment to supporting cancer patients in the Ballarat region,” said Grampians Health program director of cancer services Steven Medwell.<\/p>\n
“This new Hyundai Tucson will be a welcome addition to our two transport vehicles ensuring that cancer patients can access essential treatment and support without added stress or financial burden.”<\/p>\n
Mr Stevens said he and his family were proud to help the Cancer Centre and those in its care.<\/p>\n
“Transport can be a barrier for patients and families and this service may be the difference between patients receiving appropriate care in the right location at the right time,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We are very fortunate to have a world class cancer centre here in Ballarat and we are honoured to contribute to such an important service in our community.<\/p>\n
“We know this service makes a difference. By providing reliable transportation for patients, we hope to alleviate some of the challenges they face during their cancer journey.”<\/p>\n
Volunteer driver Ian Everett said having reliable transport is a relief to patients he helps.<\/p>\n
