WORK has begun on a new Intercultural Garden on the City Oval corner of the the intersection of Sturt and Pleasant streets.<\/p>\n
The corner will be overhauled with the aim of creating an outdoor space where people of all cultures and backgrounds feel welcome.<\/p>\n
The garden will feature a community flagpole, picnic shelter, park furniture, an area for arts displays and performances, paths, a circular display garden, other plantings, and a drinking fountain.<\/p>\n
“To have an open space dedicated to celebrating our cultural diversity, that can also be used and enjoyed by everybody in the community, at any time, is going to be fantastic,” said City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson.<\/p>\n
“As Ballarat’s intercultural communities continue to quickly grow, it is important we recognise the positive impact that has on the city.<\/p>\n
“We hope this could just be the beginning of the Intercultural Garden and we’re excited about what could be in store in future years.”<\/p>\n
The creation of the garden was part pf the City of Ballarat’s Intercultural Plan 2002 to 2026 created in conjunction with the Intercultural Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n
The design was created following community consultation in 2023.<\/p>\n
Local company S.H.A.E Enterprises will complete the project, which is expected to be finished by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
