APPLICATIONS are open for the Music Victoria Awards which acknowledge the achievements of musicians, venues, festivals and industry professionals.<\/p>\n
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at Federation Square in October.<\/p>\n
The event is now in its 19th year and previous winners include Zambian-born poet and rapper Sampa the Great, Yol\u014bu rapper and dancer Baker Boy, and Australian icon Paul Kelly.<\/p>\n
“Music Victoria acknowledges the rich contributions made by individuals from a variety of backgrounds to the Victorian contemporary music scene,” said Simone Schinkel, Music Victoria’s CEO.<\/p>\n
“The Music Victoria Awards aim to honour this diversity and strongly encourage entries from First Peoples, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Deaf and Disabled individuals, and members of the LGBTIQA+ community.”<\/p>\n
Each year, members of the music community are also inducted onto Music Victoria’s Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
The Hall of Fame is not just for musicians but also broadcasters, producers, journalists, festivals, music managers, labels and any person or business that has contributed significantly to the Victorian music scene.<\/p>\n
Previous inductees include Archie Roach, Kylie Minogue and Olivia Newton-John. “2024 will be the second year in which entrants do not need to be Music Victoria members, meaning everyone in the Victorian music industry can put themselves and the artists and venues they represent in consideration for nomination,” said Ms Schinkel.<\/p>\n
“As the landscape around us evolves, it’s a vital time to celebrate those changing our scene for the better as they pivot and reimagine their work.”<\/p>\n
