{"id":104539,"date":"2024-07-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=104539"},"modified":"2024-07-19T08:14:42","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T22:14:42","slug":"voss-queries-bulldogs-tactics-on-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/voss-queries-bulldogs-tactics-on-blues\/","title":{"rendered":"Voss queries Bulldogs&#8217; tactics on Blues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Western Bulldogs&#8217; efforts to curb the influence of Carlton star Jacob Weitering have drawn a sharp comment from Blues coach Michael Voss.<\/p>\n<p>One of the keys to the Bulldogs&#8217; upset 14-point AFL win over second-placed Carlton on Saturday at Marvel Stadium was the outstanding game from their key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.<\/p>\n<p>He kicked four goals after being well-beaten by Weitering at the start of the game.<\/p>\n<p>Concerned about Weitering&#8217;s intercept marking, the Bulldogs made sure Ugle-Hagan worked hard defensively.<\/p>\n<p>Small forward Cody Weightman also tried to help out, giving away a couple of free kicks as he flew for the ball against Weitering.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues star was in clear pain after one of those marking contests midway through the game, when Weightman flew too early and caught Weitering with some heavy contact.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if his defensive general was hurt, Voss replied: &#8220;He&#8217;s fine &#8211; it&#8217;s what happens when you get knocked in the back a few times when maybe you&#8217;re not supposed to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/20240713148859346439_64622.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"423\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said his team were mindful of Carlton&#8217;s Jacob Weitering as a threat to their game plan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Voss then declined to elaborate on his comment.<\/p>\n<p>Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge readily conceded that the Bulldogs identified Weitering as a massive threat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the first quarter, we needed to pay attention to what Jacob Weitering was doing. He was intercepting too much football and it was largely off the back of Jamarra,&#8221; Beveridge said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We needed to make some adjustments and Jamarra needed to think about his game in a technical way, around some negating and some halving that&#8217;s okay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jacob still played a really good game for them as a backman.
