FEDERATION TAFE has signed a six-year agreement with the Department of Justice and Community Safety to increase education and vocational training in Victorian prisons.<\/p>\n
The agreement, which began at the start of the month, involves the Federation TAFE continuing to deliver programs at Langi Kal Kal Prison, Hopkins Correctional Centre, and Rivergum and Corella Place post-sentence facilities.<\/p>\n
The program will also expand to facilities in the Barwon Southwest Region, including Barwon Prison, Marngoneet Correctional Centre, and Karreenga Annexe.<\/p>\n
“I would like to thank the Department of Justice and Community Safety for choosing Federation TAFE to deliver in their Barwon Southwest Region,” said Federation University Australia Provost, Liam Sloan.<\/p>\n
“Securing this agreement is an endorsement of the fantastic work Federation staff are already doing in educating students within correctional facilities and we look forward to expanding our education delivery to help more learners.”<\/p>\n
The program aims to encourage personal development, self-efficacy, and wellbeing with each student assessed to determine their needs.<\/p>\n
It is hoped learners will become job ready to gain meaningful employment post release with training focused on language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.<\/p>\n
“Federation has supported learners from diverse backgrounds to transform their lives through industry-aligned high-quality vocational education and training for many years,” said Mr Sloan.<\/p>\n
