{"id":104702,"date":"2024-07-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=104702"},"modified":"2024-07-24T15:46:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T05:46:18","slug":"board-a-game-changer-at-learmonth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/board-a-game-changer-at-learmonth\/","title":{"rendered":"Board a game-changer at Learmonth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT&#8217;S much easier to keep up with the action at Learmonth Recreation Reserve following the installation of a new electronic scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p>The large $100,000 screen was brought about by a team effort, said Learmonth Football Netball Club life member Paul Ryan, on behalf of president, Stephen Griffin.<\/p>\n<p>The State Government allocated $60,000 from the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, Learmonth FNC raised $40,000, while the City of Ballarat contributed $4000 and delivered the works.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s absolutely magnificent,&#8221; Mr Ryan said. &#8220;We&#8217;re very proud to have it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re really looking forward to the redevelopment of the oval and lighting to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Learmonth FNC life member Neil Bourke said spectators are used to asking, &#8216;what&#8217;s the score?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We won&#8217;t be hearing that anymore, because now we can see it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said the scoreboard is another game-changer for the facility, which got new netball courts in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It helps ramp up excitement at local fixtures and adds a whole new dimension to grassroots sport,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It also provides the local community with a valuable way to promote local initiatives and keep up to speed with what&#8217;s going on in and around the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The amount of money the club has been able to put into this project is huge and deserves a round of applause.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/IMG_6585_39235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson, Learmonth Football Netball Club life member Paul Ryan, and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett at the official opening of the screen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A few other clubs just had their scoreboards installed and are planning some movie nights with theirs, so that could be a good idea at Learmonth too once the weather gets a bit warmer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Learmonth Pony Club is also expected to get use out of the new screen.<\/p>\n<p>City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said up-to-date sports infrastructure attracts people to play sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Great sporting and recreation facilities help build stronger, healthier and happier communities, that&#8217;s why as a council we continue to invest in sporting facilities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are proud to work with the State Government to bring another great project to life in Learmonth.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IT&#8217;S much easier to keep up with the action at Learmonth Recreation Reserve following the installation of a new electronic scoreboard.
