{"id":104809,"date":"2024-07-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=104809"},"modified":"2024-07-24T18:28:40","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T08:28:40","slug":"a-yellow-show-to-draw-the-eyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/a-yellow-show-to-draw-the-eyes\/","title":{"rendered":"A yellow show to draw the eyes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW exhibition is shining brightly within the RACV ArtHouse space at RACV Goldfields Resort, Creswick.<\/p>\n<p>Yellow deep that drew your eyes by Australian-Malaysian-Indian artist Sangeeta Sandrasegar is championing the region&#8217;s native botanical materials through dyed silk artworks.<\/p>\n<p>Sandrasegar said the colours hark back to the gold rush, and in turn, stories of migration and multiculturalism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I started to reflect upon my own experience as a child travelling between Malaysia and Australia, and how much that movement informed by own growth and reasons why I make the work I do now,&#8221; Sandrasegar said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/XT3A6683_48853.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"901\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sangeeta Sandrasegar (right) has worked with master dyer Heather Thomas (left).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;I came across a series of childhood drawings that my mum stored for years, and I selected a few of these drawings that we recreated using a similar dye process that&#8217;s in the larger silk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of children that come through this resort, so to have some drawings that they could relate to and hung at a scale that they could see I thought would help introduce people to art at an earlier stage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sandrasegar and master dyer Heather Thomas have collaborated as part of the project, extracting colour from Cherry Ballart trees.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/XT3A6695_48874.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Artist Sangeeta Sandrasegar has utilised botanicals from the local area in her art.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;RACV is pleased to support exhibitions like this that engage the arts community and provide an opportunity for locals and guests to enjoy world-class art experiences,&#8221; said RACV head of visual arts, Mardi Nowak.<\/p>\n<p>Sandrasegar has previously showcased work at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art, Melbourne, the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland, and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Yellow deep that drew your eyes runs until Sunday 6 October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW exhibition is shining brightly within the RACV ArtHouse space at RACV Goldfields Resort, Creswick.
