{"id":105190,"date":"2024-08-12T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=105190"},"modified":"2024-08-07T20:59:42","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T10:59:42","slug":"owl-art-show-a-hoot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/owl-art-show-a-hoot\/","title":{"rendered":"Owl art show a hoot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NOCTURNAL avian creature is forming the focal point behind a visual arts show on display now at Kank Wolverang Records.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival of the Owl exhibition is showcasing 15 creatives, almost all of whom are local, with about 25 works depicting the titular bird.<\/p>\n<p>Launched on Saturday, curator Kristine Allan said the collection is about celebrating the eponymous animal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of people are very, very fond of owls and I feel like a lot of people are very inspired by the owl and what it represents so I thought it&#8217;d be a great idea for an exhibition,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got multimedia works, we&#8217;ve got 2D, 3D pieces, and even some sculptures too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In terms of the venue, the space is beautiful and well-lit, and it&#8217;s the perfect exhibiting space for what I&#8217;m wanting to achieve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Allan, featured creatives include Linda Franklin, Peter Sparkman, Amanda Western, Teira Stuart, Tiffany Titshall, Christine Crawshaw, Petra Rodgers, and Albie Mullner.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/08\/20240803Festivalofth_50395.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xander Savage is one of more than a dozen creatives showcasing their owl-themed art as part of the Festival of the Owl exhibition.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The show is Allan&#8217;s follow-up to a solo photography show also held at Kank Wolverang Records, which marked her return to the visual arts scene following a hiatus of more than decade.<\/p>\n<p>Previously exhibiting as a wildlife artist about 17 years ago alongside her cousin and Halls Gap-based creative Steve Morvell, she&#8217;s kept the idea of an owl-themed exhibition in mind since then.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always been a nature lover and love owls,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It feels great to see this idea come to life and it&#8217;s more rewarding than a solo exhibition because there&#8217;s so many other people involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s great to see what everyone else has done and how they&#8217;ve expressed themselves and their perception of the subject.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Festival of the Owl is on show until 31 August.
