{"id":105510,"date":"2024-08-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=105510"},"modified":"2024-08-22T08:56:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T22:56:22","slug":"brass-act-set-to-play-cabaret","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/brass-act-set-to-play-cabaret\/","title":{"rendered":"Brass act set to play cabaret"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN evening of traditional and contemporary tunes is coming to the region courtesy of the Creswick Brass Band.<\/p>\n<p>Next weekend, the group will bring their Creswick Brass Cabaret event to the Creswick Senior Citizen&#8217;s Club.<\/p>\n<p>Group president Robert Ohlsen said the program will feature an exploration of both traditional brass pieces and contemporary cabaret spins on classic songs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;ll start mainly with brass band music and in the second third it&#8217;ll be feature items with soloists and featured sections,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the last third, it&#8217;ll be more upbeat dance-type music. We&#8217;ll be playing a couple marches, a hymn called His Provision, and the tenor horns are doing a Beatles number.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/08\/IMG_4536_02767.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tunes from Sister Act and The Beatles are on the program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s also I Will Follow Him from Sister Act, and we&#8217;ll do Disturbed&#8217;s version of Sound of Silence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>About 30 musicians will be onstage for the performance, featuring 10 different types of instruments including a percussion section.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ohlsen said the upcoming evening will mark the second iteration of what proved a popular offering last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Traditionally, our concert for the year was an Anzac Day concert and of course it was always World War-era music,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As performers, we decided it was getting a bit stale so we went with a different concept with cabaret and everyone loved it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/08\/IMG_4543_02755.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"341\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Banding together: Creswick Brass Band features between 40 and 50 members and currently performs in C grade competition. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is to give back to the public, and we&#8217;ll also be raising money for the band so we can get some percussion equipment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Light trivia and entertainment will also take place. A raffle will be held on the night with tickets at $5 each or $10 for three tickets.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes include a $300 RACV Goldfields Resort voucher, a $200 Creswick Woollen Mills voucher, and a $100 American Hotel voucher.<\/p>\n<p>The event will run from 6.30pm on Saturday 31 August.
