{"id":106088,"date":"2024-09-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-14T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=106088"},"modified":"2024-09-11T16:37:28","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T06:37:28","slug":"150-years-of-clarendon-rec-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/150-years-of-clarendon-rec-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"150 years of Clarendon rec reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CLARENDON Recreation Reserve is turning one-hundred-and-fifty years old in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8216;Back to Clarendon&#8217; event will be held next month at the community facility to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday 19 October from 11am, Clarendon residents past and present, those who have been involved with the reserve, family and friends are invited to reminisce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Recreation Reserve has been part of the clarendon community since 1874, being used for horse races, cricket, sport meetings, tennis and many more events over the last 150 years,&#8221; said Back to Clarendon secretary Sandra David.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Clarendon lost their Primary School in 1974, the Clarendon hall in 2004, followed closely by the closure of the local church.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a result of the Scotsburn fires, the community centre was built and opened in 2019, and has become very popular in bringing the community together again after many years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the last two years, the tennis courts have been brought back to life, with a new playground about to be installed.<\/p>\n<p>The Back to Clarendon celebrations will give the community a chance to reconnect and celebrate all their achievements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A barbecue lunch will be held at 12pm, an afternoon tea will follow with tea, coffee and soft drink provided, otherwise attendees can bring their own drinks.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a photo display, and families who have called Clarendon home throughout the 150 years are invited to pre-purchase a tree and plaque be planted on the day.<\/p>\n<p>The community centre will be open all evening for those that would like to continue catching up.
