{"id":106246,"date":"2024-09-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=106246"},"modified":"2024-09-18T23:04:29","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T13:04:29","slug":"supercars-champ-visits-local-manufacturer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/supercars-champ-visits-local-manufacturer\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars champ visits local manufacturer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than four hundred community members have gathered at Bendix&#8217;s Delacombe factory to tour the site and meet Bendix Racing Supercars driver Nick Percat.<\/p>\n<p>The event, held last Wednesday, included kids&#8217; activities, a barbecue dinner, a question-and-answer session with Percat, co-driver Dylan O&#8217;Keeffe and Matt Stone from Matt Stone Racing, and raffles and door prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Bendix is a friction material and brake component manufacturer, the only of its kind left in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>CEO George Kyriakopoulos said the evening was an opportunity to show the community what the company brings to Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For us, Bendix is very much part of the fabric of Ballarat,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/Bendix1_44464.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ready to race: Bendix CEO George Kyriakopoulos with Bendix Racing Supercars driver Nick Percat. Photos: MIRIAM LITWIN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We said right from the start they we wanted to participate in motor sport, we didn&#8217;t just want to be sponsors, so this is our way or bringing the car to the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a way of sharing our experience with the Bendix Racing team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Percat, who had a desire to become a Supercar driver since he was a child, said he hoped the event might inspire young people to follow their passion.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/Bendix3_45486.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attendees learnt about the work of Bendix in Ballarat.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully there&#8217;s some young kids who want to be racing car drivers because that&#8217;s how it started for me,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me, it&#8217;s always about the younger generation and sparking the dream to become a racing car driver, or a mechanic in a racing team, or an engineer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s where it&#8217;s pretty special.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/Bendix4_46533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"403\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Percat chatted with visitors to the factory.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kyriakopoulos said it&#8217;s important to showcase Australian manufacturers despite declining numbers. &#8220;We are genuine Australian manufacturers and for us to be able to showcase our factory, it&#8217;s a proud moment,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s becoming a rarer phenomenon to be able to make product, anything for the automotive world, but here we are, we&#8217;ve opened our doors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s hopefully something we can make even greater next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than four hundred community members have gathered at Bendix&#8217;s Delacombe factory to tour the site and meet Bendix Racing Supercars driver Nick Percat.
