AN event aimed at giving the region’s young people a day of insightful and environmentally-friendly activities will return next week.<\/p>\n
Following its debut last year, the Y Ballarat is bringing back its Grow You Good Things initiative, organised by its youth action and advisory group in collaboration with Food is Free and the Yarning Garden.<\/p>\n
Y Ballarat youth impact facilitator Kate Moran said the event, scheduled for this Wednesday 25 September is about giving young people aged 15 to 25 a space to unwind and learn.<\/p>\n
“It’s an opportunity for young people to come together, create connections, and learn new skills,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The youth action and advisory group are really passionate about creating these opportunities for young people to connect in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n
“They’re aware of how much time is spent studying and working, and the pressure of it.<\/p>\n
“The event’s designed so that people can just rest and relax, and perhaps take some of that home with them by way of a in indoor plant or kokedama.”<\/p>\n
Beginning at 10am, the festivities will include workshops on terrarium-building, shirt upcycling, tea blending, kokedama creating, and dumpling making.<\/p>\n
The sessions will be hosted between the youth action and advisory group, and Food is Free, and Yarning Garden volunteers.<\/p>\n
Live music, a film screening, and free lunch will also feature.<\/p>\n
With last year’s two-day offering reaching a full 60-person capacity at The Grove in Wendouree, the event’s activities will this time be held at Barkly Square over one day.<\/p>\n
