{"id":106376,"date":"2024-09-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=106376"},"modified":"2024-09-25T16:02:02","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T06:02:02","slug":"the-joyful-colours-of-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/living\/the-joyful-colours-of-travel\/","title":{"rendered":"The joyful colours of travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A VIBRANT exhibition by Casey Tosh is evoking the memories, smells and tastes of travel.<\/p>\n<p>Post Pop Perfume is on display across two floors at Mr Jones Dining, a fine dining Thai restaurant on Main Road.<\/p>\n<p>The works, which are largely acrylic and oil on board, explore the themes of travel and unique personalities, including American chef and author Anthony Bourdain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really vibrant. The colours of Vietnam are really awesome and that&#8217;s something as a painter that really caught my eye,&#8221; said Tosh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just about remembering the travels that you&#8217;ve had and relating them to new experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Bourdain] was a really strong character and opens people&#8217;s minds to getting familiar with the locals when you&#8217;re travelling and not just being a tourist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The main piece, Little Saigon Market, looks at Tosh&#8217;s experiences of Footscray and Vietnamese food.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Little Saigon Market is my first experience of trying Vietnamese food before there was Vietnamese restaurants in Ballarat,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was the second market, which was more the locals&#8217; market, and it was away from the station so a little bit more specific and really colourful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/CaseyandDamian_34368.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Artist Casey Tosh with owner of Mr Jones Dining, Damien Jones.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tosh has been living in South Korea for the last five years and has had more than six exhibitions in Seoul.<\/p>\n<p>He brought several of the works for this exhibition from South Korea to Ballarat in his suitcase.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had some art works that I thought would be really suitable for a great show and the venue Mr Jones came to mind after visiting once on a trip here, but I also used to work in hospitality on Main Road,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I developed a relationship with Damien, the owner of Mr Jones, and it came together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Post Pop Perfume will be on display until late October.
