{"id":106394,"date":"2024-09-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=106394"},"modified":"2024-09-27T00:14:28","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T14:14:28","slug":"st-johns-hospital-upgrade-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/st-johns-hospital-upgrade-opens\/","title":{"rendered":"St John&#8217;s hospital upgrade opens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ST John of God Ballarat Hospital&#8217;s new Wexford Wing has opened to the public after seven years of planning and construction.<\/p>\n<p>The redevelopment is designed to meet the needs of Ballarat&#8217;s growing community and increase the hospital&#8217;s capacity to provide care.<\/p>\n<p>The new facilities include a medical services building, 10-bed intensive care unit and coronary care unit, two operating theatres, a 30-bed in-patient ward, and an expanded recovery room.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/hospital6_69774.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The building is designed to meet the needs of Ballarat&#8217;s growing population.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A high-tech catheter lab and central sterile services department have also opened within the last year at the hospital, supporting cardiac diagnostic and intervention procedures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s actually quite thrilling to see it completed,&#8221; said St John of God Ballarat Hospital CEO Maria Noonan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You spend years planning it, designing it, redesigning it, and then see it coming up from the ground up, and it takes a long time before you actually get the building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a great culmination of an amazing amount of hard work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/hospital5_70698.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new building was opened and blessed last week.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the wing was celebrated with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country, led by Wadawurrung woman Macaylah Johnson, and a blessing from Bishop of Ballarat, Paul Bird.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Noonan said these new facilities will be critical as Ballarat&#8217;s population continues to increase.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It really is important to meet our needs,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/09\/hospital3_71369.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The wing was blessed by Bishop of Ballarat, Paul Bird.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been running at full capacity for a long time now, our theatres are at capacity, our beds are at capacity, our emergency department and just like Ballarat Health Services is the same.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It just allows us to move into the future with confidence really, and we&#8217;re really excited by that.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST John of God Ballarat Hospital&#8217;s new Wexford Wing has opened to the public after seven years of planning and construction.
