INTERCLUB’S most recent Bookfest has raised funds for the organisation that supports adults with disabilities, as well as Dana Street Primary School.<\/p>\n
The event, which coincided with Book Week, encouraged children to dress up as their favourite book character to win money for their school library.<\/p>\n
Maxwell from Dana Street Primary School won the $500 voucher which was supplied by Wayne Compton from That Little Bookshop.<\/p>\n
InterClub coordinator Margie Iafrate said it is important to encourage children to read.<\/p>\n
“Wayne and I are of the same opinion that we love books and learning, and reading is very important for learning,” she said.<\/p>\n
“What was good was the number of children who came through with their families because it’s good for adults to encourage reading among children.”<\/p>\n
InterClub has worked with Mr Compton on several Bookfests and Ms Iafrate said she hopes to continue the tradition.<\/p>\n
“This is a good way for us to help That Little Bookshop and Wayne to give back to the community,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s important that we support our own local community in Ballarat and it’s wonderful that we have so many worthy organisations out there that put back into the community.<\/p>\n
“The clients love it, they enjoy being a part of it, and they know when we hold a Bookfest it is helping someone else.”<\/p>\n
InterClub’s next Bookfest will be held Friday 1 November until Sunday 3 November.<\/p>\n
Money raised from this event will be donated to The SoupBus as well as InterClub.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
