{"id":107694,"date":"2024-11-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=107694"},"modified":"2024-11-06T15:50:02","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T04:50:02","slug":"milestone-celebration-for-kinder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/milestone-celebration-for-kinder\/","title":{"rendered":"Milestone celebration for kinder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BUNINYONG Uniting Kindergarten has turned sixty and a party was held with community members young and old on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The event&#8217;s special guest was Florence Goodwin, aged 103, who was a teacher at the kinder for 18 years between 1966 and 1984.<\/p>\n<p>Current kindergarten teachers discovered Ms Goodwin&#8217;s connection after she was a part of their grand buddies program which was initiated by teacher Jessica Barfoot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We write pen pal letters to elderly people in homes and each class is matched to a different service,&#8221; said teacher Emma Winter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just by chance we found that Ms Goodwin was actually part of one of our groups and we realised her connection to the kinder.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She was 101 at that stage, coming out to the kinder and doing the hokey pokey, sharing old stories and getting right into all the activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/11\/formerteachers_53815.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"451\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former teachers Trish Holly, Catherine Zala and Megan Young.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Goodwin made significant contributions to the kindergarten during her time there, helping establish the current site and advocating to get the slab built.<\/p>\n<p>The event provided an opportunity for the community, and former students and teachers to come together, with a petting zoo, face painting, children&#8217;s activities, and a barbecue on site.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/11\/lionsclub_54941.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Buninyong Mount Helen Lions Club provided a free barbecue.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aimme Lemman, parent of Archer who attends the kindergarten, said it is a welcoming environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Archer has been in and out of daycares quite a lot and never settled anywhere,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Someone suggested to bring him to Buninyong which was a little bit of a hike, but I was willing to give it a go.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The transition has been absolutely incredible.
