{"id":108363,"date":"2024-12-03T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=108363"},"modified":"2024-12-03T11:05:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T00:05:36","slug":"l-and-p-plate-licences-go-digital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/l-and-p-plate-licences-go-digital\/","title":{"rendered":"L and P plate licences go digital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIAN drivers on their learners&#8217; permit and probationary licence can add their digital licences to their Service Victoria app or myVicRoads app for the first time, Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne has announced.<\/p>\n<p>Digital driver licences contain a secure, timed QR code that can be scanned by businesses and other authorities to verify authenticity and prevent fraudulent use.<\/p>\n<p>They also detail when a licence has been cancelled or suspended, and can be conveniently updated in real-time if there are changes to licence conditions or personal information.<\/p>\n<p>The new licences are compatible with major scanning technology &#8211; increasing their ease of use for both customers and venues across Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Horne said approximately 800,000 L and P platers will be able to access their licence on their phone just in time for summer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen more than 1.2 million Victorians access their licence on their phones since we launched this technology in May, and I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;ll continue to see a strong take up from our younger drivers,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The digital driver licence joins more than 170 safe, secure and easy to use services on the Service Victoria app &#8211; including fishing licences and Working with Children check cards,&#8221; Minister for Government Services Gabrielle Williams added.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers are reminded that using a digital licence is optional and doesn&#8217;t replace their physical licence.<\/p>\n<p>Physical licences will still be issued and can continue to be used for all identification purposes.<\/p>\n<p>For further information, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/vicroads.vic.gov.au\">VicRoads<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/service.vic.gov.au\">Service Victoria<\/a> websites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIAN drivers on their learners&#8217; permit and probationary licence can add their digital licences to their Service Victoria app or myVicRoads app for the first time, Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne has announced.
