{"id":108852,"date":"2024-12-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=108852"},"modified":"2024-12-17T20:53:22","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T09:53:22","slug":"station-upgrade-to-begin-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/station-upgrade-to-begin-next-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Station upgrade to begin next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE State Government has revealed final designs for the Ballarat Station upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade will improve accessibility to the station by making it easier to navigate for people with a disability and passengers with prams and luggage.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes a new pedestrian overpass with lifts and stairs installed on both platforms, and a new ramp and stairs to be built at the northern entry.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/12\/4-Newoverpassinterna_78379.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"349\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new pedestrian overpass will include lifts and stairs installed on both platforms.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There will also be improvements to lighting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With construction on track to start early next year, we are getting on with delivering this important accessibility upgrade project for Ballarat Station that will make moving between platforms easier for all users,&#8221; Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said.<\/p>\n<p>Following community feedback, the height of the overpass has been reduced and balconies have been added in the lift landings to provide look-out points.<\/p>\n<p>These points are designed to give scenic views of the station, which opened in 1862.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/12\/3-Northernstationfac_79405.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"535\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Accessibility upgrades will be made to the station&#8217;s northern entrance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The overpass colour has been changed to make it more resistant to discolouration and the &#8216;outriggers&#8217; supporting the stairwell will reference the existing trusses inside the station.<\/p>\n<p>The balustrade will also take inspiration from the heritage stair overpass inside the building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have worked closely with the local community to refine the designs to protect the historical significance of Ballarat Station without compromising accessibility,&#8221; Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson said.<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the project is scheduled to begin next year and will be completed in 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE State Government has revealed final designs for the Ballarat Station upgrade.
