MEMBERS of local Rotary Clubs are encouraging the community to get outside and do their part for the environment with two Clean Up Australia Day events.<\/p>\n
Clean Up Australia Day is held annually on the first Sunday in March and encourages the community to pick up litter and protect the environment.<\/p>\n
The Rotary Club Environment Committee will have events on at two sites: Rotary Centennial Park at Mullawallah and the Yarrowee River from Hill Street.<\/p>\n
The events will run from 10am until 12 noon, and bags, gloves and safety vests will be provided.<\/p>\n
Rotary Club Environment Committee member David Sanders encouraged community members to get involved and out into the fresh air.<\/p>\n
“Being out with your family and doing nice things has a real buzz to it, it’s a feel good buzz,” he said.<\/p>\n
“You’re in the fresh air and the environment\u2026 and you’re teaching the kids about looking after their community.”<\/p>\n
The committee also organises year-round initiatives, such as Walk against Waste which encourages people to collect litter when they are walking. “It’s such a simple thing, my wife and I go for a walk most nights and pick up a bit of rubbish,” Mr Sanders said.<\/p>\n
“You get a good feeling that you’re doing something nice for your community.<\/p>\n
“It’s the one opportunity for us to look after a source we don’t have a second chance with.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
