{"id":110753,"date":"2025-03-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=110753"},"modified":"2025-03-05T22:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T11:24:09","slug":"progress-is-taking-off-at-ballarat-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/progress-is-taking-off-at-ballarat-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Progress is taking off at Ballarat Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT has been a big week at the Ballarat Airport with the announcements that the runway extension project is complete, and that the Federal Government will provide $1.1 million to redevelop the old terminal building into a aeromedical patient transfer and emergency services facility.<\/p>\n<p>The runway has been lengthened from 1250 to 1800 metres to cater to large turboprop and regional jet aircraft, and these works were covered by $3.8 million from the Federal Government&#8217;s Regional Airports Program and $5 million from the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The runway extension will play an important role in allowing the Ballarat Airport to cater for larger commercial and emergency services aircraft,&#8221; said mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will enable organisations like the Royal Flying Doctors Service to operate their newer Kingair 350 aircraft on their flights into Ballarat, and it will improve safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Federal Member for Ballarat and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King said the works on the terminal &#8211; which will cost a total of $2.3 million &#8211; are all about making sure that first responders, air crews and patients have the essential space and facilities they need in an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>The $1.1 million from the government comes from the Regional Airports Program.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_110757\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-110757\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-110757\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/CatherineKing_Tracey_28635_tn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/CatherineKing_Tracey_28635_tn.jpg 721w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/CatherineKing_Tracey_28635_tn-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-110757\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Up, up, and away: City of Ballarat mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves and Member for Ballarat Catherine King with a concept design for the new emergency services facility at the airport.
