{"id":111113,"date":"2025-03-22T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=111113"},"modified":"2025-03-21T13:03:31","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T02:03:31","slug":"athletes-return-from-state-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/athletes-return-from-state-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletes return from state championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT Little Athletics Centre has returned from the Little Athletics Victoria State Track and Field Championships at Casey Fields with six gold medals.<\/p>\n<p>The club had 33 children take part in the competition and its competitors also took home six silver and three bronze medals.<\/p>\n<p>Six centre records were broken and 15 athletes placed in fourth to eighth positions.<\/p>\n<p>The club&#8217;s under-9 boys relay team also won silver at the State Relay Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat Little Athletics secretary Sam Gent said the club was proud of the athletes&#8217; achievements.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/aths2_80337.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"973\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">State championships gold medallists Archer, Eleanor, Aria and Annie.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had our new athletes as under-9s getting their first experience of state events and then we had two ageing-out under-17 athletes that competed as well,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our strongest athletes were in our distance events where we achieved four medals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Five athletes have been selected to take part in the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide in April.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are really proud of them that they&#8217;ll be heading to Adelaide at the end of April,&#8221; Ms Gent said. &#8220;We will be sending five athletes from a regional centre to a national event, and we believe we&#8217;ve got strong growth in our community of members this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/aths3_80972.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"764\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Club captains Eleanor and Aria.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Gent said attending the event was not just about winning medals, but also about building friendships and getting competition experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It may not be about walking away with a state medal, it may not be about having a personal best, but it&#8217;s about the experience of competition at a different centre, competition under different officials,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is about healthy, active kids that are having fun, socialising and building up a network of friendships not just at our centre but across the region and state.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT Little Athletics Centre has returned from the Little Athletics Victoria State Track and Field Championships at Casey Fields with six gold medals.
