A PROGRAM of works is underway by the City of Ballarat to repair some of the region’s sculptures and fountains.<\/p>\n
Two prime ministers’ busts, which were stolen from the Botanical Gardens in January, are being recast.<\/p>\n
On-site works are also being conducted to repair damaged busts, including structural welding.<\/p>\n
Paint damage and graffiti has already been removed from busts and Stoddart Collection marble statues.<\/p>\n
These works are now back on display.<\/p>\n
Conservation work on the Peterson Fountain is underway to enhance its aesthetic appeal with essential repairs.<\/p>\n
The repairs include surface cleaning, iron stain reduction, and the consolidation of deteriorating stone.<\/p>\n
The fountain is located opposite the Ballarat Base Hospital on Sturt Street, and it is anticipated the work will be completed by the end of June.<\/p>\n
Ongoing repairs will be needed to restore the fountain’s hydraulic system at a later date.<\/p>\n
Work is also underway to restore the Queen Victoria Memorial Statue, which is located in front of Ballarat Town Hall in Sturt Street.<\/p>\n
The project will include cleaning, laser treatments and repairs to the figure’s left hand as well as consolidating cracks, filling losses, repainting stone, and addressing iron staining.<\/p>\n
Bronze panels will be cleaned and waxed, and the winged figure will be regilded.<\/p>\n
The newly-cast Boer War Memorial will return to Sturt Street in May.<\/p>\n
