BALLARAT’s Heidi Biggin was Australia’s first legally blind contestant on TV game show Deal or No Deal earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Ms Biggin was accompanied on set by her assistance dog Freya.<\/p>\n
“It was really good, a great experience,” said Ms Biggin who won a total of $18,750.<\/p>\n
“Everyone was so accommodating and went out of their way to help.<\/p>\n
“They film five episodes in a day, so it went much longer than I expected.<\/p>\n
“The episode was actually filmed last November, and I had to keep it a secret until it aired last Monday. It wasn’t easy.<\/p>\n
“I was unlucky through the start of the game, but it all came good at the end.<\/p>\n
“I told Grant Denyer I was planning to use the winnings to go to Wrestlemania but in reality, I will be pouring it all into my business.”<\/p>\n
Ms Biggin is a disability advocate and is the founder of HB Accessibility Consulting, advocating and educating for blind people in the Ballarat community and beyond.<\/p>\n
She teaches parents how they will need to help their blind child when they receive an assistance dog and advises businesses and councils on blind-friendly access.<\/p>\n
Ms Biggin has lived in Ballarat all her life and is an active member of the community with husband Bryce and three young children. They love exploring Victoria and supporting local initiatives and events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
