RESIDENTS are invited to provide feedback on a proposed City of Ballarat litter trap which is designed to improve the health of the Yarrowee River.<\/p>\n

The trap is expected to stop more than 70 per cent of rubbish, debris and other pollutants from flowing through the river using gross pollutant trap technology.<\/p>\n

The trap was part of the Yarrowee River master plan in 2020, and the technology is used nationally to improve water quality.<\/p>\n

The proposed trap will be installed 1.5 kilometres downstream from the city, near the Sunnyside Mill precinct, to collect urban litter, sticks and branches, sediment and stormwater pollution.<\/p>\n

“The Yarrowee River is an important natural asset for our city \u2013 environmentally, culturally and recreationally,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.<\/p>\n

“This proposed litter trap is a practical way we can reduce pollution and protect the river for future generations.”<\/p>\n

The $2.5 million project is funded by this year’s City of Ballarat budget, and feedback can be provided on the MySay<\/a> page until 5pm on 25 May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
