GRAMPIANS Health staff have thanked clinical trial participants for their contributions to advancing healthcare.<\/p>\n

A morning tea was held earlier this month to coincide with International Clinical Trials Day on Tuesday 20 May.<\/p>\n

More than 100 clinical trial participants, carers and staff came together at the event.<\/p>\n

Grampians Health chief medical officer Professor Matthew Hadfield said the participants help shape the future of healthcare.<\/p>\n

“They help us offer patients access to cutting-edge treatments closer to home, improve existing therapies, and find better ways to prevent and manage illness,” he said.<\/p>\n

“But none of it is possible without the incredible generosity of those who volunteer to take part.<\/p>\n

“We are deeply grateful for our clinical trial participants’ contribution to research that benefits countless others and are honoured to provide a small gesture of appreciation for the big role they have played in helping shape the future of healthcare.”<\/p>\n

Grampians Health currently has about 100 open clinical trials and is the largest clinical trials unit in Western Victoria.<\/p>\n

Diane Connolly is one of more than 1200 people who have taken part in clinical trials through Grampians Health.<\/p>\n

Ms Connolly was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023 and participated in a trial testing new treatments.<\/p>\n

“Our experience throughout my cancer journey was made so much easier by being on a clinical trial,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and encourage everyone to go on a trial where and when they can.<\/p>\n

“It may not work, but it worked for me.<\/p>\n

“Accept the opportunity if it comes your way otherwise you are doing yourself, and the community, a disservice.”<\/p>\n
