THERE’S no place like home, and for the cast of BLOC Music Theatre’s The Wizard of Oz, Ballarat is home during June.<\/p>\n

The beloved musical classic will burst into life with heart and courage at Her Majesty’s Theatre for 12 performances only from Thursday 5 June through to Sunday 15 June.<\/p>\n

Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s beloved novel and the 1939 film of the same name, the production features the unforgettable music of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, including classics like Over the Rainbow, We’re Off to See the Wizard and Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.The Wizard of Oz will mark the BLOC Music Theatre debut of Izzy Farrah in the lead role as Dorothy Gale.<\/p>\n

Known for her roles as Veronica Sawyer in Heathers, Gretel in The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, and Nancy in Oliver! among her 25 stage credits, Farrah could not be more excited.<\/p>\n

“I am so incredibly excited and eager to step into those ruby slippers and bring Dorothy to life with all her determination, kindness, generosity and boldness, while also honouring the incredible performance of Judy Garland in this role,” she said.<\/p>\n

Director Gareth Grainger is impressed by what Farrah has brought to the keenly sought after role.<\/p>\n

“Izzy shows experience well beyond her years and brings a calm sensitivity to the role of Dorothy, accompanied by a sweet, powerful, yet perfectly controlled vocal performance,” Grainger said. “Her Over the Rainbow will bring a glisten to your eye.”<\/p>\n

A cast laden with local performers includes Charlie McGinniss as Scarecrow, Rob Muirhead as Tin Man, Marcus Hovey as Cowardly Lion, Jessica Wilkinson as Aunty Em and Glinda and Rachel Angee as The Wicked Witch of the West, with support from members of BLOC Juniors as Munchkins.<\/p>\n

Tickets are selling fast, with the best availability across the first weekend of shows.<\/p>\n
