THE Ballarat National Theatre’s production of Geoffrey Nauffts’ Tony Award-nominated play Next Fall will hit the stage at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute this weekend.<\/p>\n

Described as a compassionate, unflinching and deeply human story about love, faith, and the things unplannable, the show is directed by Matthew Henderson.<\/p>\n

It will have a limited run of five performances only.<\/p>\n

The drama follows the five-year relationship between Adam, a neurotic, witty atheist in his mid-30s; and Luke, a devout Christian actor in his 20s, who hasn’t come out to his conservative family.<\/p>\n

When a sudden accident leaves Luke in a coma, Adam finds himself thrust into an unfamiliar world, surrounded by Luke’s family, and forced to confront the secrets, beliefs, and choices that have defined their relationship.<\/p>\n

Set in New York, Next Fall forces audiences to confront the truths, secrets, and contradictions that define their lives and relationships.<\/p>\n

Henderson, whose previous credits include the BLOC Music Theatre productions of Rent and Mamma Mia, brings his own sensitivity and insight to the piece.<\/p>\n

“Next Fall asks big questions about faith, love, and how we communicate across our differences,” Henderson said.<\/p>\n

“I was drawn to this play because it doesn’t preach – it listens. It’s sharp, poignant, genuinely funny and opens a conversation about love, loss, faith and family, and it does so with a lightness of touch that leaves you thinking long after the curtain falls.<\/p>\n

“I am thrilled to bring this contemporary American work<\/p>\n

to Ballarat audiences and showcase this powerhouse cast.”<\/p>\n

It originally ran on Broadway in 2010 to widespread claim. The Ballarat production stars Samuel Darge as Adam, Kai Ridler as<\/p>\n

Luke, Natayla Munro as Holly,<\/p>\n

Jess Ryan as Arlene, Simon Carroll as Butch, and Caleb Tong as Brandon.<\/p>\n

The production comes during Ballarat Pride Month.<\/p>\n

Next Fall opened last night (Thursday, June 19) at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute, 117-119 Sturt Street, and runs throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n
