{"id":113427,"date":"2025-06-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=113427"},"modified":"2025-06-24T10:41:48","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T00:41:48","slug":"qhub-continues-with-more-state-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/qhub-continues-with-more-state-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"QHub continues with more state funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FURTHER one million dollars has been allocated to LGBTIQA+ youth support program, <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/qhub-continues-with-more-state-funding\/\">QHub Ballarat<\/a>, by the State Government in the 2025\/26 Budget.<\/p>\n<p>QHub has a Ballarat centre which has been open since 2023, providing a <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/new-space-for-young-queer-community\/\">safe space for young LGBTIQA+ people<\/a> up to the age of 25, and their families, to access free social spaces and activities, mental health and wellbeing support, and education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had 212 young people and family members supported by QHub Ballarat,\u201d said QHub community engagement worker Asha Buckmaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2025, we\u2019ve consistently had a waitlist to access support services\u2026 which demonstrates need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve also seen consistent growth in drop-in sessions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur high school drop-in sessions would usually have six to nine, and we had 15 on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison, and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett visited QHub late last week, which is delivered by Drummond Street Services\u2019 Queerspace, Cafs Ballarat and Wellways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQHub has become a lifeline for so many young people in our community, offering support, connection and a place to belong,\u201d said Ms Addison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding means QHub can keep doing what it does best; creating a safe space where LGBTIQA+ young people in Ballarat feel seen, supported and celebrated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Haylett said QHub is the \u201csafe, supportive, and celebratory space LGBTIQA+ youth deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so happy to be here to help announce the $1 million.
