AN exhibition by photographer, poet and performer Kylie Supski is now featured in Unicorn Lane.<\/p>\n
The Poetic Eye: A Photographic Journey is a series of photographs and poems created by Supski reflecting on the thoughts of American photographer John Szarkowski, as outlined in his influential book, The Photographer’s Eye.<\/p>\n
Supski moved to Ballarat from Melbourne 12 months ago.<\/p>\n
“I was performing poetry and theatre in Melbourne for many years,” said Ms Supski.<\/p>\n
“Then COVID came and things have not quite been the same ever since.<\/p>\n
“Ballarat is such an open and welcoming community. I have received wonderful support.<\/p>\n
“My partner encouraged me to apply to exhibit my work in Unicorn Lane and it was accepted.<\/p>\n
She started doing photography about 10 years ago.<\/p>\n
“I find it very stimulating and especially enjoy taking photos of nature and flowers,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Photography makes you look differently at your surroundings and changes how we see the world.<\/p>\n
“It also helps stimulate my poetry.”<\/p>\n
Supski’s exhibition embodies the essence of Szarkowski’s principles.<\/p>\n
“It highlights how photographs, much like poems, do not narrate stories but rather ignite our imagination,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Both mediums should not be subject to strict interpretation or explanation; instead, they should be experienced and felt.”<\/p>\n
The exhibition can be viewed in Unicorn Lane until July 27.<\/p>\n
Supski will also be part of the upcoming Ballarat International Foto Biennale.<\/p>\n
Unicorn Lane is an outdoor exhibition space highlighting the talents of local, emerging artists from the Ballarat region.Exhibitions change every six weeks and can be viewed during the day or night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
